How exactly do you tell a good blade from a bad one? For example, if your just browsing online for a bat, what do you look for? My play style is ALL+/OFF- what do you recommend I look for? Also I have heard a lot of praise about the blade on the Cornilliau 3000 excel bat. Is it any good or can you recommend a good blade on a premade bat suitable for custom made rubber, are there any that really stand out?
Thanks in advance
Yours hopefully
Olly
Hi Olly,
It is difficult without actually seeing and touching the bat.
Look for the quality of the wood.
Luckily the blade is not that important in the overall performance of the bat.
Of course we think the PingSkills Touch is good quality. Both Jeff and I use it and it suits us well.

The wood needs to be relatively solid. The really cheap blades are soft splintering wood.
Stick with the known brands and then the price is often a good indicator within each brand.

Also look for reviews and users comments on the web. Obviously, don't trust it too much if you find just a couple of very good or very bad reviews on a particular type of blade, but for some that are around for a long time you will find many comments, and by averaging them you should get a decent picture of the blade's characteristics.
