Strokes and Technique

Hi, Your backhand videos came just in the nick of time. I wanted to tell you about my observation and seek your opinion. Well, I often see attacking players even the top ones when they play against choppers almost always use forehand top spins. The only  notable exception that comes to my mind is Kreanga. On the backhand side they invariably tend to push! Question is why? Only the other day I was watching WTTC 2016 QF between China and Netherlands. Match between Ding Ning and Li Jie, the chopper and I found Ding Ning never using her backhand top spins but only pushing! And by this strategy she was almost on the brink of defeat but finally by a providential snick managed to win. Why is it attackers don't resort to backhand? You have partly explained in Master Class backhand top spin video but is that all or is there something more to it?

Hi Vijay,

I think it is a stroke that we have tended to learn second.  Most players have more stability around their forehand.  the backhand has more potential with the use of the wrist but may also be more risky.  The forehand can be a bigger stroke with a bigger leveraged without the restriction of the arm coming across the body.
