Tossing the ball high during service

Hi Alois & Jeff

Currently I started to toss the ball high sometimes, to add some variation to my serves . Only thing i notice that with normal serves (tossing the ball not too high) I am able to brush or slice the ball under the ball with good speed and generate  some good amount of backspin. However with the high toss serve I am a bit cautious not to cause an error and feel that i do not get a fast brushing contact making the serve easy to pick by the opponent.

I thought that tossing the ball high would help to generate more spin .

Can you give me some tips on how to improve on high toss serves so that it could become a part of my game and for me not to think of it as a risky serve.

Thanks
Regards
Grenville

Hi Grenville,

You are at the stage of getting comfortable with the high toss.  Once you do then you will start to be more relaxed about the stroke.  This will mean your wrist will relax more and be able to generate more spin.

While you are doing the serve just focus on the relaxation in your wrist.  Don't worry about where the ball is going for a little while.  You will start to feel more spin on the ball.

Just keep doing it now until you get the relaxation in the serve.
