Hi, coach!
I noticed that 7-ply woods are faster and more linear than 5-ply woods. For me, with 7-ply woods it is very comfortable to do fast blocks, and with 5-ply wood blades it is very comfortable to topspin the short balls on the table or close to the table.
For example, before changing to carbon blades, all-wood blades are recommended for beginners. Is there such relation between 5-ply and 7-ply wood blades?
Hi Ardak,
I think it is more about the quality of the wood and the speed that is important. The 7 ply tend to be a bit faster which is why it will feel better for fast blocking and the 5 ply will feel better for lifting the topspin.
I think start off with a slower wood and then progress to faster. Also make sure you find something that feels comfortable for you.

Hi, coach!
Yes, I noticed that 5-ply woods are so different from each other. In my 11 years of "TT career" :), I tried approximately 12 different 5-ply woods:
Yasaka Ma Lin extra offensine
Yasaka Sweden
Stiga offensive classic
Tibhar Stratus Power Wood
Neottec Magic control
Neottec Revolution
Neottec Mark OFF
Donic exclusive OFF
Butterfly Primorac
Butterfly Korbel
Butterfly Boll alround
Butterfly Boll offensive
With 5 ply woods I can do BH topspins during the game. But with 7-ply woods I do only blocks with BH. I mostly played with 7-ply woods last 3-4 years because of speed, power and blocking ability. I have no hope about learning bh topspin vs backspin with 7-ply. I learnt FH topspin with 5-ply wood. I still hope I will learn doing bh topspin vs backspin during the game. Recently I tried friend's 5-ply wood. Xiom offensive S. It feels better than all 5-ply woods I have tried. I hope it will be comfortable.
