Training
Hi,
I never took a particular liking to table tennis up until recently. I've been practicing for 1-3 hours each day at school for the past few months and plan on heightening my standards. During the break (2 weeks) I am going to practice for 7-8 hours daily with a coach. Is this too much? Is it too big of an interval going from 1-3 to 7-8? How long do you guys practice each day? Do you have any tips for staying motivated, and physically ready throughout multiple hours?
I have an option to shorten the session but I really want to do this for the full length and I'm not changing my mind.
Hi John,
It sounds like you have made the decision for yourself. So give it a try and see how it feels for you to play 7 hours a day. You will know soon enough if it is too much or if it is OK for you.
There are no tricks to motivation. Either you are keen enough to practice that much or you aren't. Let me know how it goes.
Although attacking is the most popular style at the top level in Table Tennis, it is important to be able to defend well. If you choose to play a defensive style then you should be practicing these strokes all the time. If you play an attacking stroke then you should still try and find some time for these strokes. If you can win one extra point by defending well when pressured, it could make the difference between winning and losing.

Surprisingly it felt like a breeze. I used to get tired with just 2 hours of training. Honestly if I could've done more, I definitely would've done so.
Well done John.
