Hi Pingskills and Alois

Am a penholder and i like so much this game and my play stile, but i can see the matches of wang hao, xu xin, etc. and the backhand technique of them is different to me, the reverse backhand counterhit and block. My question is: what backhand technique is the best, the normal backhand technique or the reverse backhand and can you show me the both techniques?

thanks for all the lessons, you are the best and sorry for the english. I am from south america.

Hi Cristh,

The penhold backhand is a stroke that has developed over the last 10 years.  The Reverse Penhold Backhand is a more effective shot because you can make a more attacking stroke with it.  The traditional backhand is more of a safe stroke for blocking.  If you really want to progress with the Penhold grip it is important that you develop the RPB.

We show you these strokes in a lesson we have filmed which is on Youtube.  Take a look at Penhold Techniques for Table Tennis.  This will help you to see the techniques that you will need.
