Hi there coach, I would just like to ask for the adequate period of time needed in training.

Here is my weekly schedule for training sir:

Sunday - Match play and free play at club - 6-7 hours

Monday - Physical training - 1 hour

Tuesday - Multiball training - 1 hour

Wednesday - Physical training - 1 hour

Thursday - Multiball training - 1 hour

Friday - Match play and free play at school - 40 mins

Saturday - Match play and free play at club - 6-7 hours

I also wanted to ask if I am overdoing it specially for saturday and sunday, does playing too long also destroys my form? what is the adequate period of time needed for training to maintain my best form sir? thanks in advance :)

Hi Wayne,

FIrstly that is a good amount of training.

I think the 6 - 7 hour sessions are too long to maintain concentration.  If you are there with a purpose and doing set drills for a period and then taking breaks in between then it can work but if you are just there for 6 hours and hitting randomly then you are probably not being efficient.  Ideally I would think that you could do a 2 hour session then have a 45 minute break and then do another 2 hour session and perhaps finish with some matches.

This may not work exactly in the club situation but see if you can get it closer to that.

Hi Jonathan,

I think you just need to put in what you can.  Each person is different with different demands in their life.  You will out in what you can afford and how much of a priority Table Tennis is with the rest of your life.  If you are studying for exams then they should take priority but if you have holidays then Table Tennis may be able to take up more of your time.

Another factor is how well you use those hours you are on the table.  In general 14-15 hours is a good amount of time to allow improvement in your game if you use the hours well. In our Training Secrets Course we show you some ways to maximise your time and gain the best out of your training.
