Hi Alois and Jeff,

I recently stumbled on your website around a month and a half ago.  Your advice was to master the counterhits.  It was great advice I am now beating people I would never think of beating.  It also helped that I got a paddle that had really great spin speed and control.  I am going to a tournament for the first time next Sunday, and I was wondering if there is anything I should work on before then, or just stick to working on the counterhits.

Thanks

Hi Jared,

Probably the one thing is to thin about getting a bit of experience with returning serves.  This may not be possible before the tournament but try to learn as mush as possible on the day in this area.

Before the tournament you can work on your own serves however.  Don’t worry too much about the results from this first experience.  Try to learn as much as you can.

The Push in Detail

The humble push does not sound like an exciting stroke but it is one of the most important shots in Table Tennis. Having a great short push can be the difference between being an average player and being a great player. Make sure you allocate the appropriate amount of practice to mastering the push.
