Age in Table tennis

I am 15 years old. I began playing table tennis around 10 or 11 months ago. My rating is 682. Although, I have been showing immense improvement since when I started, I am still only able to play close matches against players who are 2-4 years younger than me. Did I begin playing too late? The truth is, I am not aiming to be a world champion, I simply want to be able to play against players that are my age and have a good time with them as well. Right now, I feel like I may never get to that level. Is it still too early to decide? Any sort of thought on this will really help me, as well as ways for me to improve. (Just to give you an idea to how good the players my age are, their ratings are around 1000-1800.)

Hi Abdullah,

I hear this a lot from players.  Don’t worry at all about the fact that you are behind the players of your own age.  This is a long term game.  Give it time and if you keep focus and your interest in the game you will reach their level and probably even higher.

Hi Abdullah

I'm 43. I'm beating and losing to players of all ages. I'm making faster progress than some youngsters but there are others with whom the distance only becomes larger. It's easier said than done but if we try to focus on the game and not the opponents, we will enjoy it more.
