Altering your serving position

Strategy

Do players ever change their receiving position during matches. I sometimes alter my position slightly as I think it leaves my opponent guessing what kind of return I am planning, and it may make them change from using a serve I am finding difficult to return. Any thoughts?

If there was an award for best table tennis website, I'd vote for you. Thanks.

Hi Nigel,

First thanks for your vote of support... always appreciated.

You should alter the position depending on where they are serving from.  For example if they are serving from a position wide on their backhand the angle to cover is more on your backhand side.

Changing your position to force a serve can also work well.  If you find that an opponent is getting you wide on your backhand it is a good idea to move over to over that ball and try to force them to serve it to your forehand side.
