Anti-spin / long pips

Strokes

Good day Pingskillers!

Lately I make good progress but I keep struggling with anti-spin / long pips users.

I do know the theory behind it, I see when they push the ball with their "special" rubber and I'm very able to keep the ball in play by pushing. So far so good! But...
I just can't hit the ball in a way so it lands on the table! It always goes wide over the table.
So maybe you have some guidelines for me on where to hit the ball?

Should I hit the ball with a very closed bat and with quite a lot of brushing action or just hit it more flat on in a slightly downwards motion? Aim at the edge of the net maybe? I just don't know.... >:(

I understand that this is difficult for you to explain and it probably comes down to practise a lot against these type of rubbers. But I don't have that opportunity because nobody uses it at my club.

(Maybe a slowmotion video on this subject? If voted for by full members)

Thanks in advance!

Hi Bertus,

We do have a lesson on it in our Match Strategy course referring particularly to Long Pimples.

I would say, think about hitting the ball lower as it seems to be that you are misreading the one after you have pushed the ball.  Treat it like a soft counterhit ball.  In your mind tell yourself to hit the ball lower.

Forehand Smash

The forehand smash is used when the ball is around shoulder height or above. It is a much harder stroke to play than it looks. Follow the tips on this video lesson to ensure your smash is an effective weapon.
