Hi Alois and jeff,

Firstly, thank you very very much for your free table tennis lessons. They are so so much better than the others out there. Totally informative and thoroughly understandable.

I am a novice who aims to play in corporate tt tournaments. I was just wondering about antispin and Long and medium pimples.

1. When we say Antispin, does it mean that I just need to do a forehand counterhit on a spinning ball, and the bat reverses the spin and delivers it to the opponent?

2. What is the use of Long and medium pimples? To get a antispin face on my bat, I need to put Long/medium pimple rubber on that face? Who would you recommend Long and medium pimples to?

3. If you are ever considering opening an academy in Mumbai, India. I can get u a couple hundred students on the first day! :)

Warm Regards,

Anand

Hi Anand,

Anti-spin rubber is a particular type of rubber with a flat surface that has little grip on the surface.   The effect is that spin will have less effect because the rubber doesn't grip onto the ball as much.  It does reverse the spin as well similar to Long Pimple rubber.

Long and Medium pimpled rubbers are different to Anti-spin rubber but have similar effects.

I would recommend Long and Medium pimple rubbers to people that don't have a strong backhand and are quite defensive.  You also need to be quite clever to use it well.

On opening an Academy in Mumbai that would be interesting, especially since I was born in Mumbai.  I am sure the interest in Table Tennis is big over there, especially with the succcess of the National team and the upcoming Commonwealth Games.  At the moment though time is a big issue for us.
