Hi Alois,

I am an all-round short pips player (Joola SNABB - F/H, 729 Geospin - B/H, Blade - Bty VSG-4000FL). Though, i fairly land most of my forehand smashes, not all the balls i hit are good candidates for smashes. So, i've started working on my drives as a backup.

1. What is the best attacking strategy for a short pips player like me?

2. Are there any specific rubber combinations that work well for a F/H short pips? ( I chose 729 geospin for spin and more control)

3. Any other tips that you might suggest.

Thanks for taking the time to answer questions. I really love your site and will definitely direct my friends to it.

Hi Sudheer,

Short pips players need to stay close to the table.

You need to get the rally to an open rally as soon as possible.  Start with no spin and topspin serves so that the opponent opens the rally.  This should suit your style of play.

You need to use placement during the rally with your backhand.  Use the speed to outplace and cut down the time of your opponent.  Force a weak stroke with placement and speed on your backhand and then use your forehand to attack and finish the rally.

By using spin on your forehand it makes the difference between your backhand and forehand sides greater.  This makes it harder for your opponent to adjust.

I am not sure of specific rubber combinations with short pips.

Hope these tips help you .
