i am an amateur player. my basic is strong and my productivity in a match is quite good. i have played quite a few tournaments and have performed well against quality players of my level. but something has been bugging me lately. my backhand attack is the problem. i am not being sure of the positions i need to play the shot and hence missing BH topspin . i am now only blocking, pushing and driving the ball with my backhand. i am missing balls in long and fast rallies whenever I want to play an attacking stoke with my backhand. my style of play is becoming more forehand bound. what should i do?

Hi Hasibur,

It sound like you have just lost confidence in your backhand.  Spend time in training, just focusing on the backhand attacking stroke.  The more you succeed with it in training, the greater your confidence will get.

Just check that there is nothing technical wrong with your stroke by taking a short video of your self doing it and watch it back.  See how it compared to the lesson we have on the Backhand Topspin Against Block and the Backhand Topspin Off Backspin.

Then in a game think about making sure you use the backhand when the ball comes to the backhand side of the table.  You may need to do this consciously at first because you will be tending to favour your forehand in this situation.  However, after some time and some success with the backhand, you will start to want to use it naturally.

Backhand Topspin Against Block

We delve into the essential techniques for executing a consistent backhand topspin against a block. We cover three critical aspects:

  1. Foot Position: Ensuring a stable and balanced stance to facilitate quick movements.
  2. Start Position: Positioning your racket and body correctly to initiate the stroke effectively.
  3. Finish Position: Completing the stroke in a way that prepares you for the next shot.

Additionally, we discuss how to adjust your bat angle if the ball goes long, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the same start and finish positions without coming across your body.

Whether you're a beginner aiming to build a solid foundation or an advanced player looking to refine your technique, this comprehensive guide is designed to enhance your game.
