Strokes
Hello,
One thing that I don't understand is whether the wrist is required in the backhand counterhit. My backhand counterhit is just a reflection of the forehand counterhit. But I'm not having any success with it. From what I saw in the your video, the wrist opens up and provides some amount of forward motion and the forearm opening up provides the upward motion of the ball. So should I switch over to this style or retain mine? I'm having very less success with it. Also, could you elaborate on the physics behind this action.
Thanks in advance!
Hi Viki,
Focus on the start and finish positions of your racket. If you do this well everything else will fall into place. Your wrist can be relaxed which will help the stroke to be more fluent and also later add some pace.
Don't get too caught up with the physics of it. You can send yourself silly if you start thinking about the intricate details of the stroke. Just remember that the wrist is an extra moving part that will add to the momentum of your stroke. However with an extra moving part you can also get more errors.
