Equipment
Hihi, there are many different opinions and backhand and forehand rubber, which should have higher degree, which should be softer. May I know which one is right? I'm left handed, backhand major, shakehand grip.
Hi Benzene,
There is no right and wrong, just what feels comfortable for you personally.
Personally I like a higher degree on my forehand to lift backspin balls but that is just me.

Thanks coach! For my case I usually return backspin balls with backhand. The question regarding degree: is it true that softer rubbers will have lower degree, and will have higher spin at lower speed compared to that of higher degree? I asked this question from a contradiction in a video by coach EmRatThich. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jFe9CiNSX_c it claimed that players use softer rubber on backhand like Tenergy and the graphs shown that lower degree higher spin at lower speed as backhand perhaps not as strong, but when I searched for reviews on rubbers, it seem that some rubbers are softer and yet higher degree. May I know what is right?

The degree depends on the sponge and the top sheet of rubber. You can have a soft rubber with higher degree because the top sheet is more tacky.

Thanks coach!

Hi coach can you pls give an example of soft rubber with higher degree w/ tacky top sheet.
Alois Rosario from PingSkills Posted 5 years ago
Hi Ian,
I will leave that to our equipment experts to provide some examples.

Toclarify,Benzene, by "higher degree" you mean exactly what?
Throw angle?

Hi coach what do u think of ma long 5 ALC with xiom omega pro vII 2.1mm & mx-s max? Which is better in fh & bh? Plus the weight of the blade 92g? It is heavy right?

Hi all,
Honestly I don't remember as I asked this question 2 years ago...
I forgot if I meant degree as throw angle or the force to spin ratio... I guess it's what coach Em Rat Thich was saying in the aforementioned video(?)

I'm not sure which video you're talking about. But from what I understand regarding equipment, if Em Rat Thich says "degree", I'm sure he's referring to the "hardness" of your rubber and sponge. He really recommends higher degree (harder) rubber on forehand and slightly lower degree yet bouncy rubber on backhand. Just read his article about choosing forehand and backhand rubber.
