Receiving
Hey Alois,
I don't think I have much problems when receiving a backspin ball that bounces of the table (loop), but when some really good player (or maybe just lucky :p) serves a short backspin ball that doesn't leave the table on its first bounce I find it kinda hard to flick it back. And the ball won't even bounce high enough because of its tremendous spin.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Hi Arien,
The best response to this type of serve is to make a short push back. If you try to flick it the backspin will drag the ball down and not make the stroke easy.
Make sure you are getting the bat angle right back to counter the backspin on the serve.
A really important skill in table tennis is to be able to judge if a serve will be short or long. If it's short you won't be able to take a full swing at the ball and hence will need to use either a push or a flick to return the ball. However, if it is coming long then you can make a topspin attack. In this video we give you some tips to help you judge the length of the serve and hopefully this makes you a better returner.
