Hi there again.

I have recently been going to a club, and there is this one person who has a really fast BH sidespin flick for far, kind of like what Ma Long does.

However, he puts it straight down the line, no matter if its low of high. He also does this with his forehand, just without the sidespin.

Please teach me how to do this as well, because he won't. Please also teach me how to counter this, because it goes really fast.

Thanks.

Hi Joshua,

It sounds like you are playing a very good player. We have video on the Backhand Sidespin Flick that should help you. We also have a video on the Forehand Flick.

To make it hard for your opponent, you can try to keep the ball lower and with more backspin. Both of these things will make the flick a harder shot to produce. It's important to keep the ball lower so he needs to lift the ball more and play more conservatively.

A good way to return a flick is to play a topspin stroke. This stroke should be pretty similar to playing a Forehand Topspin Against Block.

Let me know if these videos help you out.

It has been a couple of days, and now I've been getting better at doing the BH sidespin flick. It's a really hard stroke!

But other than that, those videos really helped me. I put him in quite the shock that i can return those flicks of his most of the time.

So then he changed up his tactics and is serves to my forehand mid court. It's the ones where it's a double bounce. I'm finding it hard to hit those on my forehand. Any tips?

Also, keeping the ball low was very effective so he couldnt attack.

HI Joshua,

You can move across and still play this ball with your backhand.  You will see that Zhang Jike does this often.  Make sure you move back quickly into a basic position after the stroke otherwise they will catch you out on the next ball.
