I did not see any instruction on hitting a backhand smash. I am just learning, and your information has been quite helpful...I am starting to run a beginners program at the gym I work at in Las Vegas and would like to know what kind of shoes I should be wearing...We play on a basketball wooden floor.

Hi Norman,
We haven't filmed a lesson on the backhand smash yet. It's not really a stroke we'd recommend you play. If the ball is high enough to smash, you should have time to step around and play a forehand smash which is a much easier and more consistent stroke.
With regards to shoes, there are specific table tennis shoes which are great especially as players improve and start to use a lot of footwork. Also any indoor sports shoes are normally pretty good. Asics have a good range of indoor shoes suitable for table tennis.
