How to smash the ball in backhand
Hi Hans,
This is a difficult stroke and one that should only be attempted if you can't get around onto your forehand.
In most cases if the ball is able to be ssmashed you have enough time to get around and play it with your forehand.
But to answer your question, the basics are to start with your bat at around shoulder height and almost touching your left shoulder. Swing through flat and forward and finish wiht your arm extended out at right angles to your body. The bat should stay quite flat throughout the stroke and the contact should be very flat.
Try it out and see how that goes for you.
How is it that a player can always seem to get back those extremely fast topspins? Is it their incredible anticipation? The key to good anticipation actually lies in tracking the ball well. When you watch the ball closely your peripheral vision will pick up your opponents movements and with lots of practice those signs will help you anticipate what your opponent is going to do. This happens naturally with lots of experience. So it it your job to ensure that you are tracking the ball really carefully.
