Backhand 'thumb' on Shakehand Grip

Strokes

Hi PingSkills

I want to ask about the thumb on backhand

Some people told me to put my thumb a little bit up on the rubber but some others told me to only put it on the paddle just like the usual grip

They said thay by putting thumb a little bit up on the rubber will give more control on the backhand and put it back on the paddle on the forehand

I've tried and it's right that I have more control on the backhand and make the strokes better but, I think it's just too complicated to change the grip all the time

What do you think about it?

*I saw Alois put his thumb a little bit up on the rubber for backhand but Jeff only put his thumb on the paddle

Please help me

Thank you very much.

Hi Frendy,

I think it is better if you can keep the thumb down for both strokes.  It allows you more use of your wrist with the stroke.  It does become difficult to change the grip quickly.
