Strokes
Hi Alois,
While I am comfortable doing backhand topspin against balls which the opponent has hit using counter hit or topspin, but if he has made a heavy deep chop to my backhand then I am not able to topspin it. If a similar ball comes to my forehand I can get down, swing my bat vertically and use my body to lift the ball with heavy topspin but on the backhand side feels like devoid of such force.
Even when I see matches, for example Timo playing against Joo Se Hyuk, he will almost always use his forehand topspin. Although in my case I don't think I am facing that much heavy backspin but I am struggling. Should I even be trying to topspin such balls with my backhand? A chop or push goes too long and if it is too high, easy enough to hit a winner for the opponent.
Hi Abhinav,
Keep trying to topspin these balls. Against a chopper you have a little more time and that is why players like Boll will step around and use their forehand most of the time. You can generate a bit more force with the forehand.
To get more force with your backhand, use your legs and swing a little more from your right hip or outside your body to get a bigger swing.
A snake shot is a type of stroke which is specifically used against a drop shot. It is usually loaded with a heavy spin so that the opponent finds it difficult to counter. The type of spin can be backspin, sidespin or topspin depending on your choice. You need to make a movement after hitting the ball to confuse your opponent.
