Hello guys, I have been watching your online videos for the past few months and I think they are great.  I love the way you guys go in to detail about almost every single aspect of Table Tennis.  Watching your videos has improved my game tremendously and I would like to thank you for that.  However,  i have a question about the backhand.  I can generate topspin and I have a very consistent shot but I am having a hard time generating enough speed to win me points.  Dont get me wrong, I can create a pretty decent amount  speed but I would like for my backhand topsin drive to be much more powerful.  Any suggestions?

Hi Johnny,

Thanks for your kind words about the lessons.  We enjoy prodcing them and it is great to hear nice feedback such as yours.

To generate more speed do one or both of two things.

One, hit the ball flatter.  You will still get topspin on the ball because of the movement of the stroke, but just hit it with a much flatter contact.  Make sure to keep the stroke the same though.  This will make a big diference to the speed of the ball.

Secondly, see if you can get your arm moving faster.  The tricky part here is to stop trying so much and just let your arm swing freely.  The slowing down comes from tension in your shoulder.  Take note of this tension and see if you can swing your arm more freely.

Try these two tips and see how it works.
