i recently watched a friend of mine serve and not only did it hit the other side of the table, but it came back to him therefore making it almost nonreturnable. i was wondering how he did this and if its legal.

Hi Brenan,
It is legal. Take a look at this video on the How to Execute the Ma Lin Serve.
The main thing is to get a lot of backspin on the ball and not give it too much forward momentum so that it can stop and come back towards you.

thanks so much. iv been working on it and haven't quite been able to get it to roll back. but im sure i will now that i know what to do
It may take a bit of practice but you will get there.
