hi alois and jeff,

i ve seen many players who take a more back-forth backswing and those who go for a semi circular one .(fh)

which is better in terms of generating speed and spin?

Hi Shripathi,

All high level players use the rotation of their body during the stroke.   Some players will extend their follow through a bit more forward for more speed.  They are both very similar.  Do what feels more natural for you.
