Is it true that Table Tennis balls would be changed after the Olympics? And if is so,then why? Aren't celluloid balls good any more?

Hi Sourav,

Yes they are talking about changing the composition of the ball to go away from celluloid.

I haven't really kept up with the discussion on it.  i am sure some of our readers are up with it though.

Would the bounce and sound of bouncing be different from the celluloid balls?

Do you have any more information on the timeline? I see 2013 as being when the change will be in effect to the POLY balls.

I also believe this will have a SIGNIFICANT in the current equipment.

ITTF said they are "hoping" to get the ball to play 95% similar to the current balls and that it will still be 40mm.

I was hoping that you would have more insight on this change.

Hi James, I haven't been keeping up to date with this.  If anyone else knows more, I would love to hear about it?

I just found some more info. It appears it is now being delayed until the World Championships in 2014.

I just don't see their logic in changing the ball material.
