Hi coach!

My opponent is always making me go from one side to the other by playing wide. How to return those wide balls effectively? Thanks a lot :)

Hi Atis,

There are a couple of things that can help you out. At the start of the rally if you play the ball down the middle it makes it harder for you opponent to hit the ball very wide. If you do get caught out wide then if you return the ball wide across court it makes it harder for him to play it down the line and force you to the other side.

The best way to deal with these wide balls is to get better at your footwork. If you can get into a good position, you'll be able to make a good stroke and place the ball well to your advantage. Watch our Footwork Basics video and let me know if it helps you out.
