Hey Jeff,

I have a query & I do hope you can point me in the right direction.

I purchased a Schildkrot (Jean Pierre Gatin) 5 star bat in 1995. I used it regularly (3 to 4 times a week) till the end of 1997. However, since then I have not been very active.

About 3 months, I re-started playing regularly. I seem to notice that I am unable to produce much spin (if any at all) during this time. My game is essentially a pro-offensive all round game.

One of my biggest concerns is that my serves seem to have little to no spin at all & therefore are returned by my partner very easily.

My fronthand topspin smashes are quite difficult to control. My topspin loops are not spinning at all.

However, my backhand topspin shots are well in control.

I would like to know if its time to purchase a new bat? I am not professional & so am not comfortable in being involved in a custom bat without guidance.

After researching on your website, I have shortlisted down to 2 bats:

1. Stiga Titanium -
Speed: 99
Spin: 100+
Control: 37
Blade systems:TI WRB
Rubber systems: MAX ACS

2. Or the Stiga TitanTech -
Speed: 88
Spin: 83
Control: 50
Blade systems: TI WRB
Rubber systems: MAX ACS

Any advice you can provide is highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Gautham.

Hi Greg,

It sounds like your rubber may be worn or even dead due to age.  Sometimes even if they are not being used they can perish over time due to heat or dirt.  It is probably time for a change.

Ou tof the two bats you have listed I would say go for the TitanTech as it is a little slower with more control. Don't go too fast too quickly.  I think it is always better to err on the side of consistency when you are developing or restarting.
