Equipment
Hello,
I was very happy to be improving in table tennis. A while ago, I bought a Donic semi-carbon blade and the rubbers Barracuda and Bluefire. When the rubbers died, I thought I'd improve my play more, and bought Xiom Pro Europe and Xiom Vega Pro, about a month ago.
But now I feel kind of disgusted of my play: shots which I used to control even when I had a two stars are now off the table! And when I receive a direct strike, my response is often in the net (as if the rubbers have really low angles), but when the strike comes to me with little spin, my response is often too high (as if the rubbers have very high angles!)
My motivation has much decreased with this!
I'd like to ask if some kinds of rubbers are not suitable to play with some kinds of blades, but mostly how could I know what blade/rubbers suit my way of playing. I am normally offensive and intelligent on the table and I have strong strokes and rapid reflexes.
Thanks a lot!
Hi Dan,
It sounds like you're experiencing some common frustrations as you transition to new equipment. It’s not unusual for players to feel a bit off when they switch to new rubbers or blades, especially if the characteristics of the new gear are significantly different from the old. Let's break down your situation and find a solution that suits your style.
Each player has different feel for equipment. The best thing to do is experiment with different types of equipment and then when you find something that feels good in your hand stay with it for a good period of time to allow yourself to adjust all aspects of your game.
One thought is to go back to what you were playing with previously. I don't think changing rubbers or blades should be something you do if you are already feeling comfortable.
