Best Serve in Doubles - Right Hander

Serving

Hi PingSkills.

I'm playing a lot of double nowadays but I have a problem on serving as I'm Right Handed and the serve position is on the right side of the table and must go diagonally as my habit is to serve from the left side as a right hand player. I use a lot of Backhand Serve but I can't make a lot of variations and it makes my serve easy to return.

So what is the best serve in Double for the right handed ? And also what type of SPIN, SPEED, and, PLACEMENT is the best when serving in double ?

Please for the answer. Thank you very much.

Hi Frendy,

You can use any serve but really focus on getting the ball short.  Also make sure the ball doesn't go too wide because they can also attack that.

Take a look at our recent Ask the Coach video response to Doubles service position.

The Kicker Serve

The kicker serve is one of our "must learn" serves. It's fast, fun, and has lots of topspin. It can be dangerous because if it's not fast enough and if you don't surprise your opponent then they may be able to attack it forcefully putting you on the defensive straight away. Used well though, and sparingly, it can be a great weapon. It can win you a point outright and it will stop your opponent from standing over the table waiting for your short serves since they need to be ready for anything.

so is it better to make the pendulum serve or the backhand serve ?

For a right hander probably a pendulum so that it curves towards the middle line.

Mainly backspin so they can't attack you.
