Block Variations

I took my partner to train his forehand topspin using the Table Tennis Loop Mastery DVD. I was the feeder and blocker this time. I noticed my blocking game isn't that good. I took the opportunity to see what I'm missing. I was so used to being the one trained that I didn't train training others. I researched on block variations and I found Passive Block which is used against a spinny topspin, Normal Block, Punch/Smash, Block Chop and Countertopspin. I already saw your video about the Countering Slow Topspin. Timo Boll and Samosonov both use blocks to great effect. Now I ask, what block variations should I train and use in games and how often should I practice them? Should I add them to my training regimen?

Hi Carlo,

Blocking is a vital part of training.  If you can find a regular training partner spend half the time doing your drill and the other half you should block for them so they can practice their drill.  This will certainly improve your blocking.

Practice all types of blocking because you can use all of them in a game situation.
