Equipment
okay, so I know what the basics of the difference between the two are, such as the Chinese rubber has thicker rubber rather than thicker sponge and has a very sticky surface, whereas the European rubber has thinner rubber and thicker sponge, but how does this affect game play.
I have heard that strokes are affected quite differently between the two types of rubber, but there isn't a good video or article, or answer explaining this in detail.
the bottom line is: how do Chinese rubber and European rubber differ in game play?
Cheers!
Jason
Hi Jason,
It is really just a matter of preference and the individual rubber. The harder sponge of the chinese rubber allows you to brush the top of the ball a bit better. The softer european sponge allows you to contact behind the ball and let the ball sink into the sponge a bit more.
You can also take a look through the database of answers on the subject by typing in "Chinese and european rubbers" into the search box at the top of the Ask the Coach page.
