Hi Coach,

What is the difference between the way the Chinese players and European players loop?  Somehow the type of rubber is different as well.

Thanks,

Tony

Hi Tony,

The traditional Chinese tospin uses more of the friction of the rubber to propel the ball forward.  As a result the rubber has a harder sponge and a grippier surface.

The European topspin tends to use the sponge more for the topspin by allowing the ball to sink into the sponge and grip around the ball to generate the topspin. So their rubbers tend to have softer sponge and don't require as grippy a surface.

The Chinese loop has a higher start and a more horizontal swing whereas the European loop starts with the bat vertical to the ground and comes forward with the whole bat with a bigger area coming at the ball.

So, the chinese have a flatter contact or a brushing contact?
