Hi Henry,

To chop the ball wiht your forehand start with your bat behind your right ear. Swing down like you are chopping and finish with your bat at your left knee.  You need to put backspin on the ball by having your bat facing up to the roof.

The backhand is similar but start behind your left ear and finish at your right knee.

Your stance is side on to the table.

Try it out and see how you go.

Chopping will be the subject of a video lesson shortly.  We were aiming to get it done today but it will have to wait for next week.

I was watching last Olympics from time to time and came to a conclusion that chop is a fading stroke. I did not see many people using chop and if they did so they frequently ended up in a worser situation. Even such a good chopper as Chen Weixing was using it very seldom and I got a feeling that he really did not want to use it. Especially in team match Austria vs South Korea chops were creating more attacking opportunities for the other team.

Hi Pavel, Chopping is definitely a hard way to win a point these days. They deserve every point they get. I think that there are a number of choppers around today that have incredibly good attacking forehands and use these as a weapon. It seems that the successful choppers can mix attack and defense extremely well.
