Hi Dayton,
It sounds like you're in a bit of a pickle deciding between short pips and inverted rubber! The choice largely depends on your playing style and what feels more comfortable during your games.
If you find that you're performing better with the inverted rubber, it might be beneficial to stick with it, especially if it complements your style of play. Inverted rubbers generally offer better spin and control, which could be why you feel you play better with them.
However, if you're keen on using short pips again, consider what advantages you believe they might bring to your game. Short pips can be great for blocking and hitting, and they can throw off your opponent with their unique ball trajectory. If these elements align with your strategic goals, it could be worth giving them another shot.
My advice would be to practice extensively with both types of rubbers in different playing scenarios to see which one consistently helps you perform at your best. Also, chatting with a coach or a more experienced player about your playing style might provide additional insights.
Ultimately, the right choice is the one that feels right in your hand and matches your playstyle. Trust your instincts—they're usually spot on.
Should you use a protective film to cover your rubber and add protection
