Consistency

Strokes

Hi Pingskills,

I've got another problem with my game recently, I am really lacking in my consistency in my strokes.

For example, when my opponent serves, I can backhand topspin it back, but then when the blocked ball returns I cannot recover and execute my forehand topspin.

Another problem is when before a rally or match we would need to warm-up. And I cannot keep up with my consistency and the fourth or the third ball is usually out.

Is it because of my not tracking the ball enough or am I too driven to hit the ball very hard? Please help! Thank you!

Hi Sam,

After you make the topspin return focus on being balanced.  If you are balanced you will have the best chance of making the next ball. If you try to hit the first return too hard and throw yourself off balance you will struggle with the next ball.

During the warm up try to slow down a little and just focus on getting the ball on the table and hitting the ball with the middle of your racket.  You can practice this during your training sessions as well.
