Hi,

I was wondering if where you hit the ball on the paddle makes a difference to one's shot.  I would assume that if the ball is contacted closer to the tip of the paddle, it would impart more spin due to the faster racket speed at the tip, but I would like a confirmation.

Thanks!

Hi,

You are right about hitting the ball closer to the tip and the racket speed for serves.

For general strokes you also need to consider the blade and the "Sweet Spot".  Sometimes hitting the ball near the end means you are not hitting it in the "Sweet Spot" of the blade and will have a slower result.

you are right.this is especially important during loop drives and services, so that you can impart the max.spin and whiplash to the ball; provided that the sweet spot of the racket is almost at the tip, which is almost in all cases

this is conrary to what alois says in the training secrets dvd. in this he states that the sweet spot is right in the centre of your bat.

I think you misunderstood him. The sweet spot is predominantly in the middle of the rubber, which is where you want to be hitting the ball most of the time, as it offers you maximum control of the ball. But there are times where you might want to reduce that accuracy for increased spin by hitting it closer to the edge to impart more spin, such as serves for instance. Pretty sure that is right, but if there is anything wrong, feel free to correct me.
