Contact Point Topspin against Backspin

hi, i am working on topspin against backspin, fh and bh, and was wondering about the contact point on the ball.  your lessons indicate a fast brushing contact, but should i be aiming for the top half of the ball, or centre, should i be trying to keep the ball on the bat for as long a time as possible to get more brush? thanks.

ps how is the training dvd progressing, will it be out end of this month still?  many thanks.

Hi Andrew,

For the topspin against backspin it is easiest to hit the ball in the area near the back of the ball.  Because you are using quite a vertical stroke this will give you the best results.

You shouldn't keep the ball on the bat for very long. The longer the ball is in  the rubber the more effect the backspin will have.  Try and brush the ball with a short contact time on the rubber.

Training Secrets Revealed is in the final stages.  As we keep finding these things always take longer than when you first plan them.  We have finished filming and Jeff has just one more sleepless night editing before we can get to the production stage.  We are also waiting on the artwork for the cover and disc.  All very time consuming... but we will get there soon.

Where should you aim to contact the ball on your stroke? Is it better to take the ball, early, late or at the top of the bounce?

Thanks Alois, that really helped.  The trickiest thing about practising this drill for me is getting consistent feeding.  my training partner and i have tried it, but struggle to feed backspin. we settled for just chop serves but either not getting the ball long enough or barely any backspin half the time. We tried to do it how you do on the lesson but find this impossible.  in most of these drills feeding can be as hard as the stroke itself! it is coming though. with time it can only get better. thanks again.
