How do i control and defend smashes hit with a lot of power with my backhand ?
Hi Tejas,
The best thing is to move back from the table when you see the ball going up in the air and then making a lob. Try to get into a balanced position before the smash comes.
Take a look at our lesson on the Lob for some more help on how to play the stroke.
An even better idea though is to really focus on keeping the ball low. If you can do that they will not have as many opportunities to hit the ball fast.
Alois and Jeff commentate on the highlights from this round of 16 match between Nathan Van der Heiden and Eric Tan. Nathan Van der Heiden has excellent control and Eric Tan has excellent footwork. Who will prevail?
