Is corkspin ever practical in an actual game? If you use a different name, corkspin is the spin that rotates perpendicular to the forward path, similar to a football. 

Also, how would you perform such a shot?

Hi Horace,

It is usually too slow to be effective because you have to brush the ball sideways rather than forward to get the ball to spin that way.
