I am still not clear about when to do a simple counterhit versus a topspin drive in games. Can you suggest some criteria for this choice?

Hi Ajoy,
In most cases if you had the option you would opt for the topspin as you can generate more spin and speed.
If the ball is too fast for you and you don't have time to make a topspin then a counterhit would be a good option as it is more efficient.
You may also want to make a counterhit if your opponent likes the ball coming faster to them.
A chopper likes to get back from the table and get into a nice rhythm. If you keep the defender close to the table in the early part of the rally, it's hard for them to transition back into their chopping position. So keep the ball short on your serve and try and catch them unprepared. Watch the video to find out more great tactics to use against a defensive chopper.
