Hello Pingskills,
What rubber characteristics control how easy it is to defense against heavy chops and downspin?
Could you please explain how each one affect the trajectory of the ball?
Thank you so much ..
Rashad
Hi Rashad,
As long as it is a good quality rubber you will be able to deal with backspin balls.
I find rubber with a grippy surface a bit better for lifting backspin with a topspin stroke. The grippy rubbers will give you a more direct angle off your bat. When you are lifting topspin it will help you to lift the ball directly off the rubber at a higher trajectory.
Make sure you buy a table tennis bat that is suitable for your level and allows you to develop your technique. For your first bat we recommend the PingSkills Rook, and when you upgrade to a custom bat we recommend the PingSkills Touch with Mark V or Rakza 7.

As Alois said, any good quality rubber can deal with heavy backspin. However, if you are looking for the rubber that most easily handles heavy backspin, it would have to be LP or antispin because of spin reversal and the lack of friction on your rubber. Of course, that option comes with its own problems and challenges such as inability to put spin on the ball yourself.
