Dealing with low backspin balls with long pips

Strokes

Hi,

I've played in league game recently and my opponent kept giving me backspin balls very low over the net to my backhand. I use long pips on my backhand and I had a very hard time dealing with these types of balls. they were too low for me to attack them with the long pips, so I just kind of had to push them back as low as possible, but naturally they come back to my opponent with topspin which enabled him to attack them quite easily.

What is the proper way to deal with these situations? At some point i just started jumping far away from the table as soon as i had to face such a ball because I knew the attack was coming, but it seemed like i lost all control of the match.

Hope you can help me.

Kind regards,

David

Hi David,

I think the best solutions to work on the attacking stroke with the long pimples.  When they give you a backspin ball this converts in the rubber to topspin so it is a bit easier to make the attack.

Take a look at our tutorial on the LP Attack Against Backspin.

Even if you roll the ball back to them it will give them a different ball that they may not be expecting.
