Hi Alois and Jeff,

I am a coach and wish your suggestions regarding adopting the Defensive/Chopper Game style. One of my student has been playing with pimple rubber on his backhand. He is 20 years of age. He has been playing for one year, but has improved a lot.

Last two tournaments, he couldn't perform up to a certain level with his backhand pimple advantage. I noticed that in my whole state, there were not that many defensive players. Moreover, there is a big limitation of pimple rubber after a certain age. Because, at his age, the players have become used to playing with pimples. So, I told him to think about the change in his game style, to become a defensive player. He is a bit over weight, but he can move nicely.

Now, I wish to confirm whether my decision for this player is right or should I change it?

Thanks a lot!

Hi Jaydev,

I think the most important thing is how the player feels about the change.  Do they feel comfortable with the style.

Get him to try it for a while and see how he feels.  It could be a good move depending on his skills and motivation for the style.
