Strokes
Hi Alois,
Playing both side Pips (Short/Medium) there occurs a problem for me in responding tough backspin (whether its short or long) by Forehand. Case 1) handwave from right to left : the ball sink down to net despite trying to adapt the angle nearly horizontally. Case 2) same angle but handwave longline downwards in direction to the net: a little more better results, the majority of balls drops down on the other side. My questions: a) is there generally a difference (angle or smth. else) between Fore-and Backhand in responding backspin balls by pushing or chopping ? b) what do you think make the influence of different pips, do you think it's urgently required matching the personal style of playing to applied stuff (Pips, Anti etc.)
thank you
kind regards
Gerhard
Hi Gerhard,
The short pimples will be effected by the spin on the ball. So if they put backspin on the ball the ball will go down off your bat. With the Medium pimples the ball will tend to float up a little.
There will be different responses from the different rubbers.
Although this is a very simple lesson, the idea applies to every level of player. Developing control and keeping the ball on the table is the most important skill in Table Tennis.
