When in the a doubles match will you always be the server when you are in the left side of your team's side of the table and when your team mate or you are done serving after your two serves you and your team mate change side of your team's half of the table and how will the right handed players use pendulum serves.

Hi Martin,

The rule is that after your team finishes serving your two serves then you change positions.

It is more awkward for the right hander to use the pendulum serve but they can still use it by altering the angle of their body.

Actually I think it's a good choice of serve because your opponent will likely return the serve to your backhand court of the table, due to the sidespin you put on the ball, where your partner is prepared to make a third-ball attack with his backhand topspin (if he is right-handed) or a strong forehand loop (if he is left-handed).

Hi Everyone--

I personally prefer the backhand serve in doubles, as, being right-handed, I then don't have the interference issues with my partner, and I can quickly side step to the right to get out of his/her way, then circle back around behind them.

In doubles, it pays not to serve too many side spins, as your partner will often have to deal with at least some of the spin coming back to them.

I prefer back spin mixed with no spin in doubles, because this tactic can often cause the receiver to pop the ball up for an easy attack for my partner (no-spin), or the ball dives into the net (heavy back spin).

I mix these up with the occasional top spin serve, by brushing up the back of the ball.

Watching doubles matches on YouTube will give you more ideas.

Thanks Jeff. This solved a lot of problems for me.

I used to serve the Pendulum from my forehand side in singles too and used to get into awkward positions.

I will implement the pendulum from the position you described in the video.
