Effect of Air Exposure on Table Tennis Blades

Equipment

Hi Pingskills, I would like to ask whether leaving a blade exposed in the air will ruin the blade. I am thinking of putting out my rackets in an air conditioned room for long term but am worried that the moisture will be absorbed by the handle of the blade. Will that be the case?

Hi Shawn,

It’s great to see you’re thinking about the best way to care for your table tennis equipment. The durability and condition of your blade can certainly be influenced by how and where it’s stored.

If you’re planning to display or store your rackets in an air-conditioned room for a long time, consider the following tips to ensure they remain in good condition:

  • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Even if the room is air-conditioned, direct sunlight can heat the blade and handle, causing potential warping and deterioration of the rubber.
  • Use a Blade Cover: When not in use, store your blade in a table tennis racket cover. This will protect it from dust and accidental scratches, as well as slight variations in environmental conditions.
  • Regular Checks: Every now and then, check your racket for signs of wear or damage. This is especially important if it's not being used regularly, as issues might not be immediately apparent during play.

By following these simple guidelines, you can help ensure that your table tennis blade remains in top condition, ready for when you next need to use it.
