Strokes
is there and elbow movement involved in the forehand drive and what about in a smash
Hi Karlo,
Yes there is elbow movement. The forearm will give you a bit more speed with your stroke. This movement comes from the elbow. That is why we initially teach for the forehand to finish near your head. This forces you to use the forearm in the stroke. You can't finish near your head with using your elbow.
With the smash there is also some elbow movement but not as much as with the topspin forehand.
To generate the best speed you need to use a whole range of movements. Starting with your legs to your waist to your upper arm, lower arm and wrist. All those things working together will get you the most power.
Most players are told to always return to the ready position after every stroke but that might be hurting your game. In this video, we reveal a smarter way to recover:
✔ Track the ball immediately after your shot
✔ Move your racket into position for the next shot instead of blindly resetting
✔ Improve your timing, balance, and flow during rallies
Whether you’re a beginner or advanced player, understanding this subtle change can have a big impact on your consistency and speed around the table.
