Strokes
Hi Alois
I have recently been trying on loops where i put as much topspin instead of flat hitting as possible. But i still cant.
So i left the table and just still practicing the fine contact. When i got it, I trained again but didnt work. I think its because when i play loop, there is too many other things to consider (weight transfer, footwork etc) and i cant concentrate on the contact.
Any tips on how to improve just the fine contact or any way to practice on or off table
Thanks Mat
Hi Mat,
When you get back on the table, just focus on the contact like you are when you are away from the table. When you get the contact right on the table then you can think about getting the other things right such as weight transfer and footwork.
When you want to play a topspin down the line what changes do you need to make to your stroke?

Another thing you should consider is shadow training. That you still need to worry about weight transfer and footwork is an indication of conscious effort to do the stroke. Instead, the stroke should be a subconscious effort like you think "this ball looks good. Let's loop it!" and then your body takes over and loops the ball without your intervention.
One way is to do shadow practice. Just be away from table and loop imaginary ball over and over. Focus upon weight transfer and correct stroke. Do it everyday, perhaps one hundred strokes per day. Until your subconsciousness gets the hang of it. After that, you can focus upon the actual on-the-table training.

Great thoughts Arnon!
i regularly do this for the past 2 months and it has developed my strokes amazingly. Even try doing some shadow footwork drills.
Yes that is right Mat.
