I missed some balls when I am trying to top spin loop it because I was too cautious in imparting brushing friction to the ball, so as not to let the ball sink deep into touching the blade. This issue becomes more apparent as I am trying to top spin loop an even more quality heavy back spin ball. How could I avoid missing ball, and yet not sacrificing the quality of my top spin loop with very heavy top spin brushing?
Is there anything got to do with the equipment I am using? For example, if I am using a better rubber or blade with top spin capability, maybe I will have more margin for error, in which case I can loop by having the ball sinking deep into touching the blade, and still able to successfully bring the ball over the net... Thanks in advance....
Hi Lionel,
Thanks for your question.
This is a matter of practice. The difficulty of imparting a ot of topspin is the fine margin you have. This is a complex fine skill and so needs a lot of training to makes sure your body can master the contact. Persevere with it. If you are getting frustrated, go for a more solid contact and build up from there.

Hi,
This is the same problem I have been having. I sometimes miss the forehand topspins while I want to increase the amount of the spin. My racket just brushes the ball or even does not touch it swinging very near to the ball. I think most of the time this happens with the balls coming slow and low. Is there a way to avoid this, other than practice? :) because I have been missing much and it gets annoying especially in the games.
Hope it will improve with more practice, as was suggested here.
Thanks!

I had the same problem. My coach helped me with this with simple almost proverbial phrase "if you hit the ball, it will spin". I started to do just that - make solid contact. Slowly but surely the solid contact proved worth while and the only difference in spinnier vs faster shots was the type of the follow through used after contact to the ball. I hope I am explaining it well enough.
